The father of a man shot dead by a SWAT team after a standoff in suburban Miami was killed by his phone, authorities said Tuesday.
Shreveport Police Chief Brian Cappelli said that the man, identified as 29-year-old Jose Hernandez, was found unresponsive at a home in the 7600 block of West South Street.
Cappelli would not give details of how the man died.
Hernandez, who is from the San Juan area, was shot multiple times.
Police said he used a kitchen knife to cut a piece of wood and a piece off a metal door that had been bolted shut.
The man then opened the door to his father and pointed a gun at him, Cappellosaid.
He then fired a shot through the doorway.
Hazda police said in a statement that Hernandez had been acting suspiciously and was acting aggressively.
Police later found him dead.
The incident remains under investigation.
Hollingsworth Police Chief Jim Pyle said the suspect was a known drug user and had been in the city for several years.
