Two Memphis police officers are suing the city, alleging the city failed to protect them from their ex-girlfriend and her family when she was shot and killed last year.
The lawsuit filed Monday in Memphis City Council District Court says Officer Daniel L. Moore, 35, and Officer Brian R. Jones, 39, were shot in the head by former boyfriend Justin Jones, 26, on Jan. 18, 2017.
The suit says the two officers were on duty when they were approached by Jones, who asked Moore for directions to his residence, according to the lawsuit.
The suit says Moore then shot Jones in the back of the head, according.
Jones was charged with capital murder, aggravated assault, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and tampering with physical evidence.
Moore is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 18.
Moore was shot in Memphis, Tennessee, on Feb, 17, 2017, while on duty.
He died a week later at a Memphis hospital.
