By MELISSA GARCIA-KELLEYNEW YORK (AP) A Pennsylvania police chief says an officer tried to kill an officer during a traffic stop in a suburb.
The officer was not injured, but his family said he had been shot in the leg.
Police Chief Michael Schmitt says the officer’s name has not been released.
The chief says a police officer stopped a man on April 17 and then opened fire on him when the man raised his hands.
Schmitt says that the man, identified as 29-year-old Scott Smith, was shot by a deputy who was responding to a call about a man holding a gun in a home.
The deputy was shot and taken to the hospital.
Schitt says Smith was charged with attempted murder.
